Enivronmental Health & Safety Specialist
Job Introduction
The Environment Health & Safety Engineer position will provide leadership, and counsel to influence development of a proactive approach to safety, health, and environmental issues. The principal challenges include assuring that Environmental, Safety, and Health Management systems are in place; anticipating, recognizing, evaluating, and controlling safety and health hazards; providing expert input into problem-solving and implementation relative to those hazards; and monitoring and continually improving the performance of Health and Safety Management Systems. The EHS Engineer is responsible for maintaining, updating, and continuously improving the facilities training program for compliance with federal safety regulations, state laws, and corporate policies.
Role Responsibility
- Develops and implements programs intended to reduce or eliminate occupational injuries, illnesses, deaths, and loss.
- Possess a thorough understanding of local/regional regulations and company policy.
- Provide guidance and oversight to ensure compliance to all applicable Bosch Rexroth Safety Policies
- Perform frequent safety audits to identify all non-compliance equipment and/or processes at each location. Implement solutions to eliminate exposure to these risks and prevent injury.
- Enter and coordinate corrective action updates on all safety related.
- Audit the quality, delivery (including qualifications of the trainer), and effectiveness of all required safety training.
- Manage necessary environmental, health and safety training to support and enhance the organization’s safety culture while ensuring the plant is in compliant with local, state, federal and HydraForce requirements.
- Develop and deploy procedures, to support, identify, and implement best-practices.
- Build and maintain strong communication channels to all levels of operating management and functional departments, as well as the production workforce by conferring with team members on the safe use of equipment, fire protection, and the overall safety program and by providing expert guidance and tactical hands-on assistance in all Environmental, Health, and Safety goals and initiatives.

- Conduct a 5 Why process for the investigation of accidents and injuries to determine their cause.
- Accompany and manage regulatory personnel on inspections.
- Ensure all environmental permit requirements are established and remain in compliance.
- Measures safety performance through computing injury/frequency rates, making reports, and keeping records of accidents and prevention measures.
- Develops accident-prevention and loss-control systems and programs for incorporation into operational policies of the organization.
- Advises management on safety compliance concerns and preventative actions.
- Coordinates safety activities of unit managers to ensure implementation throughout organization.
- Compiles, analyses, and interprets statistical data related to exposure factors concerning occupational illnesses and accidents and prepares reports
- Maintains liaison with outside organizations, such as fire departments, mutual aid societies, and rescue teams to assure information exchange and mutual assistance and participates in activities of related professional organizations.
- Assist in the management of Worker’s Compensation claims and transitional work program.
- Prepare and maintain OSHA record keeping requirements. Update and report new or developed changes and oversee the Job Safety Analysis (JSA’s) program at the facility.
- Assist and maintain environmental reports including Storm water permits, SPCC etc.
The Ideal Candidate
- Bachelor’s degree in safety, environmental, ergonomics or a related field preferred
- 5+ years of growing responsibilities in safety and/or environmental programs in manufacturing.
- Experience in OSHA, DOT and EPA regulatory requirements.
- Working knowledge of applicable safety and environmental regulations and policies.
- Must be team oriented with the ability to work on high collaboration and performance teams.
- Ability to work a flexible schedule during key business deadlines.
- Computer skills necessary for generating reports, presentations and spread sheet analysis using Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook)
- Effective human relation skills, including the ability to communicate, influence, persuade and/or motivate people, are essential simultaneously.
- Requires problem solving and creative skills to deal both objectively and empathetically with organizational problems.
- Strong organizational and planning skills.
- Experience implementing lean principles and process improvement in an operational environment.
- This position combines hands-on technical analysis and administrative tasks.
- Self-directing with the ability to work in a fast-paced environment with multiple accountabilities and multiple internal customers.
