Lead Automation Engineer

Job Introduction

Position Summary

The Lead Automation Engineer role is responsible for designing new automated and robotic systems and managing the development process through concept development to implementation and subsequently provide continuing support

Duties and Responsibilities

Design, implement, and document control systems for various types of custom automated equipment

Conduct the electrical/hydraulic pneumatic design, peripheral device programming, machine PLC programming

Produce and maintain design drawings via CAD, CREO

Participate in cross-functional teams to address and resolve manufacturing, design and quality problems, and ensure the continuous, on-going improvement of processes and methods

Coordinate machine debug, power-up, and machine validation

Ensure equipment is designed and programmed to HydraForce Automation build specifications using standard techniques and approaches

Create test protocols for all aspects of mechanical components, equipment and machinery

Create detailed drawings, bills of material, assembly drawings, and assembly procedures

Perform engineering calculations for stress, strain, force, torque, tolerancing power, thermal, and fluid flow problems creating appropriate models to be analyzed

Assign work to the Automation Engineer and Technicians; monitor the work

Provide ongoing support to Manufacturing

Drive continuous efficiency and effectiveness in day-to-day activities

Support the organization with sharing and implementing best practices across all locations

Other duties and responsibilities as assigned by manager

 

Supervisory Responsibilities:

This position supervises the Automation Engineer and Automation Technician(s)

 

The Ideal Candidate

Qualifications and Experience

Bachelor of Science in Mechanical and/or Mechatronics Engineering, or relevant experience in lieu thereof

Minimum 7 years’ experience in an Automation role; hydraulics industry experience preferred

Proficient in creating and modifying assembly and system level models utilizing verbal or written instructions and existing documentation

Demonstrated experience in designing mechanical assemblies and systems in Robotics, Automated Systems, Vision Systems and Machine Controls

Ability to plan, schedule, coordinate and problem solve effectively

Accurate and detail oriented, with the ability to follow through on tasks and objectives

Ability to function effectively as part of a team

Strong written and oral English communication skills

Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously

Ability to meet deadlines

Strong critical thinking, problem-solving and analytical skills

Ability to effectively communicate with all levels throughout the organization

Strong organizational skills
